$60,000 scholarships for students affected by Trump Administration DACA Decision September 6, 2017 Huron University College announces $60,000 scholarships for any academically eligible student affected by the announcement of the Trump administration to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). Huron recognizes this is a small gesture in the face of a terrible injustice. While we, as Canadians, cannot affect this American policy, we can nevertheless stand with those who are victimized by it. We have no way of knowing how many people will take advantage of our offer, but we feel compelled to do whatever we can when we are faced with actions that contradict our guiding principles. Huron sees this scholarship as a meaningful attempt to assist deserving students victimized by a policy and a situation beyond their control. At Huron, our vision is to Educate Leaders with Heart, and we have embarked on a mission of teaching civic responsibility. We believe our students should care for other people and actively engage in bringing about positive social change. People are sometimes skeptical about universities and their place in society, but we believe in the capacity of post-secondary institutions to lead the search for solutions to the many problems facing society today. Huron is an institution that cares about the world we live in. This is why we feel it is essential to ensure every student, regardless of race, identity, or background, has an equal opportunity to thrive.
