The following information outlines the computers and technology available for use in or to borrow from the library.

  • Computers

    +
  • Huron University College Library has an Information Commons with 20 workstations and wireless access. The library's workstations are available for activities related to study, research, and teaching. Our primary users are Huron University College students, faculty, and staff. Current students, faculty and staff of Huron, Western and the Affiliated University Colleges may access library computers by logging in to a terminal using their Western Identity account username and password.

Public access is provided to members of the wider community as a courtesy, and will be limited during busy periods to 60 minutes per day. Guests are required to provide one piece of photo identification and complete the Temporary Guest Computer Access request form.

All users must agree to honour the University of Western Ontario Code of Behaviour for Use of Computing Resources and Corporate Data.

  • Wireless

    +
  • Access to wireless is only available to students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University who have a valid Western Identity.

Faculty, staff and students can find more information about their Western Identity on the About Your Western Identity page.

Visitors to campus who are participants in the "eduroam" initiative can refer to http://eduroam.uwo.ca/. All other visitors looking for access to Western's wireless network need to make arrangements with their campus host prior to visiting campus.

  • iPad Lending

    +
  • Borrowing:
The iPads are for use by currently registered Huron University College students, faculty, and staff. They can be reserved in advance through our online booking system and are signed out at the Huron Library Circulation Desk after the user signs a liability agreement. The loan period is from the time of checkout to thirty minutes before the library closes that evening. However, alternate arrangements may be made available upon request by emailing huclibrary@uwo.ca.

    Use of iPads:
The iPad must remain inside of its case during use and the user is responsible for making sure that the iPad does not get damaged, lost, or stolen while it is checked out to them. The user is accountable for the iPad until it has been inspected and checked in by a library staff member.

Users may load apps and content on the iPad using their own accounts, and when an iPad is returned, all data and settings will be wiped from the device. The Huron Library assumes no responsibility for any problems that the iPad may cause to any other equipment to which the iPad is connected.

Use of the iPads falls under the Computer and Internet Acceptable Use Policy. For more information on privacy and security policies please visit the Western University Information Security website.
