Huron University College rewards academic excellence and provides a number of automatic scholarships as well as scholarships that require an application.

Huron guarantees a scholarship to any Canadian secondary school applicant with a final admission average of 80% or higher.

  • Huron's Hellmuth Scholarships

    +
  • Huron awards up to 10 Hellmuth Scholarships valued at $30,000 over four years to outstanding entering students.

    Huron requires applicants to be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and present:
    • a strong academic record in a wide variety of courses from the liberal arts and sciences;
    • outstanding achievement in volunteer/community service, athletics, the arts, and/or student life.

    Recipients normally have a midterm average of 90% or better.

    The deadline for applications for the Hellmuth Scholarships program is February 19, 2016.

  • Automatic Entrance Scholarships

  • Applicants with a final admission average* of 80.0% or higher are guaranteed an automatic entrance award from Huron University College as follows:

    Notes:
    * Final admission average is calculated using best six final grades (including any required courses for the program to which the student has applied) for courses completed by June 30, 2015.

    ** $750 per year for four years, provided the student maintains a minimum average of 80% on 5.0 courses during the regular academic term.

    *** $1,000 per year for four years, provided the student maintains a minimum average of 80% on 5.0 courses during the regular academic term.

    **** $1,500 per year for four years, provided the student maintains a minimum average of 80% on 5.0 courses during the regular academic term.

    @ $2,000 per year for four years, provided the student maintains a minimum average of 80% on 5.0 courses during the regular academic term.

    @@ $2,500 per year for four years, provided the student maintains a minimum average of 80% on 5.0 courses during the regular academic term.
  • International Scholarships

  • International (Visa) students with strong entrance averages will be considered for these awards valued at $1,500 to $10,000 per year.

    These awards are renewable provided the student maintains a minimum average of 80% on 5.0 courses during the regular academic term.
  • Transfer Student Scholarships

  • Applicants with a final cumulative admission average* of 80.0% or higher are guaranteed an automatic entrance award from Huron University College as follows:

  • Huron Scholars Group

  • In addition, all Hellmuth Scholarship winners are guaranteed their choice of building and room within residence and automatically become members of the "Huron Scholars Group". This group brings together high achieving students who hold renewable entrance scholarships and senior scholarships at Huron. Members of the group are invited to a September reception and are kept informed of extra-curricular activities, award competitions, graduate application workshops, and other opportunities.
  • Master's Degree Scholarships, Awards, Prizes

  • These scholarships, prizes, and awards are awarded automatically by the Faculty of Theology Committee and are usually announced at the end of the school year. There are currently 13 such prizes/scholarships awarded (and 1 B.Th.), with the prizes ranging from $150 to $3,000.

    • Fisher Scholarships for 1st-year and 2nd-year M.Div. students with highest averages
    • Faculty of Theology Prize for Academic Distinction for a graduating student
    • Irish Benevolent Society Prizes (Archdeacon Alford Abraham Prize for Homiletics; Canon Maurice Farr Prize for Pastoral Care, The Rev. Captain Bill Bennett Prize for a Mature Student)
    • Luxton Prize in New Testament
    • The John Morden Scholarship for the full-time, returning student who contributed most to the spiritual life and welfare of the College
    • Brotherhood of Anglican Churchmen Scholarship in Old Testament Archbishop Peers Prize in Biblical Languages
    • The Rev. Dr. D. Jay Koyle Prize in Liturgics
    • The Very Rev. Leslie B. Jenkins Prize in Systematic Theology
    • St. Mark's by-the-Lake Scholarship for Christian Leadership for a full-time second year MTS or M.Div. student
    • The Clarence M. Foltz Scholarship in Spiritual Development awarded to a graduating student.
  • Graduate Government Scholarships: OGS, SSHRC

  • These substantial Canadian and Ontario Government scholarships are available each year.

    OGS (Ontario Graduate Scholarship)

    This $15,000 scholarship is for those in, or moving to, a graduate master's or doctoral degree. Apply between October 1 and January 22/16 if you are a current Western graduate student remaining at Western or applying to a Western graduate program.  Otherwise, contact the university where you plan to take your graduate degree.  Deadlines are set by the universities.

    SSHRC (Social Science & Humanities Research Council) Doctoral
    CGSD (Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral)

    These $20,000 to $35,000 scholarships have an online application, which is then printed, signed, and turned into the individual graduate program office where you currently are a student. 
    Theology's deadline is October 30, 2015.

    CGSM (Canada Graduate Scholarship Masters)
    This $17,500 scholarship is for those in, or moving to, a graduate master's degree.  Applicants submit an online Research Portal application.
