Katie Oates (She/Her) is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Visual Arts, where she also completed her MA in Art History. She went to Carleton University (Ottawa) for her BA, double majoring in English and Art History. Katie’s current research explores histories and theories of photography as they intersect with women’s rights movements, materializations of belief systems, operative dimensions of photographs and their affective evocations. Her ultimate goal is to extend her research and writing into various domains across cities, nations, and timezones within and outside of academia (with her two Miniature Dachshunds in tow).
