USC Health and Dental Plan
The University Students’ Council (USC) is pleased to provide eligible, full-time undergraduate students at Western University health and dental coverage through our PurpleCare plan. Students are automatically assessed the premiums, enrolled in the plan, as well as the myWellness program, which offers many mental health support resources. Coverage begins September 1 through August 31 of the following year.
If a student already has an equivalent extended health plan, they can opt-out of the PurpleCare plan by visiting www.purplecare.ca and following the instructions listed under the “Enrollment Options” section and uploading proof of alternative health coverage. Opt-outs open July 1, 2022 until September 23, 2022 at 11:30 p.m. ET. Extensions and late opt out are not available.
Please note, graduate students are covered under a different health and dental plan administered by the Society of Graduate Students (SOGS). Note that this only applicable to Masters of Theology Program (MTS) students only. Details on that plan and opt out can be found on SOGS.ca. This opt out runs from September 1/2022 until September 30/2022. Extensions and late opt out are not available.
More information can be found on USC Health and Dental Plan FAQ. Should you have additional questions after reviewing the health and dental plan, kindly contact Nina Joyce at nina.joyce@westernusc.ca.
USC LTC Bus Pass
In collaboration with the London Transit Commission (LTC), the University Students’ Council (USC) is pleased to provide eligible, full-time undergraduate students at Western with the USC Bus Pass. This pass provides free unlimited rides, at all bus stop locations, during all hours of operation, seven days a week (including holidays).
Eligible students are automatically assessed the mandatory fee for a bus pass, which is loaded onto their Western One card and valid from September 1 until August 31 of the following year.
There is no option to opt-in or opt-out of the USC Bus Pass for the 2022-2023 academic year. It is a mandatory plan, authorized by a student referendum that requires all eligible, full-time undergraduate students to participate. The addendum made to the USC/LTC contract for the 2020-2021 academic year was a one-time only exception in response to the global pandemic.
We encourage students to take full advantage of the pass and use this cost-saving method to experience all the city of London has to offer!
